Levy Mike, CLE (In memoriam)

Mike Levy, a leader in environmental engineering and life cycle assessment, passed away on February 25, 2024. His career spanned government, industry, consulting, and trade associations. Most recently Mike served as Market Area Director of Sustainability and Climate Change at First Environment. In 2021, his longtime contribution to the field of lifecycle analysis (LCA) was recognized with the prestigious Rita Schenck Lifetime Individual LCA Leadership Award from the American Center for Life Cycle Assessment (ACLCA). Mike also served as co-chair of the U.S. delegation engaged in the development of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Circular Economy standards being developed with the involvement of over 80 countries.

Mike earned a master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He spent much of his career within the chemical industry, including more than two decades at the American Chemistry Council (ACC).

A spirit of service was a common theme throughout Mike’s career. With more than 40 years of experience, he strongly supported professional development and technical advancement in the field of sustainability. He was among the first ACLCA Certified Lifecycle Executives and was a contributing author for multiple industry texts, including the recently published The Power of Life Cycle Assessment: Data Driven Decision Making for Environmental Sustainability. Mike served as Vice-Chair, Secretary, and Executive Committee member for ACLCA’s Board of Directors since 2022, and as co-chair of the Board of Directors and Policy Committee from 2001 to 2022.

Colleagues fondly remember Mike and his commitment to making the world more sustainable. Mike’s optimism and sense of humor will be truly missed.
