Compensation and Benefits

Our compensation is competitive and considers experience, training, billing rate, and business development. When establishing compensation ranges, we benchmark comparable firms, cost of living indexes, and recruitment statistics.

Responsibilities

  • Front Desk Support: Greet and assist visitors, answer and direct phone calls, and manage the reception area.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive HR management experience, preferably in the engineering, environmental consulting, architectural, or related industries.
  • Working knowledge of current HR laws and regulations; proven experience in all HR concentration areas, such as benefits and compensation, workforce planning and development, employee relations, occupational health & safety, and overall compliance.
  • Strong existing relationships with recruiters for NY/NJ metro region and beyond.

Senior Program Manager - Site Investigation & Remediation

Responsibilities

  • Manage site investigation and remediation practice group in the New Jersey
  • Support and provide leadership to the technical execution of site investigation and remediation projects in New Jersey, as well as out-of-state projects supported by satellite offices
  • Manage performance of direct reports

Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in environmental engineering, science, geology, hydrogeology, or related field
  • New Jersey Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP) certification required
  • Professional Engineer (PE), Professional Geologist (PG) certifications preferred
  • Must be able to clear a federal government background investigation
  • Minimum 10 years of project management, client interaction, and business development
  • Minimum 10 years of successful experience performing environmental consulting remediation projects assignments; a minimum of 5 years leading environmental consulting initiatives for private sector and governmental clients in New Jersey and New York. Project experience in Pennsylvania preferred
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing marketing strategies to identify, pursue, and bring in new work
  • Project management or program management experience with large site investigations and site remediation projects
  • Experience conducting environmental due diligence in accordance with ASTM E1527-21, Standard Practice for Environmental Site Assessments
  • In depth experience in designing and executing subsurface investigations and remediation projects, including soil, groundwater and vapor intrusion.
  • Design experience in the development of in-situ chemical oxidation systems.
  • Experience with designing and implementing enhanced bio-remediation systems
  • Proven track record of providing leadership, managing teams, and developing and retaining staff engineers and scientists

Geotechnical Engineer

First Environment, Inc.—an environmental consulting services company that provides strategic environmental and engineering services throughout the U.S.—is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer for our Butler, NJ office. This position provides internal multi-disciplined project management support, supports proposal preparation coordination and project capture management, geotechnical analysis and design, and geotechnical support on projects related to civil works projects and ground improvements. Project work will likely focus on restoration and flood mitigation. The position may require project-specific travel throughout the United States.

General Responsibilities:

  • Support and coordinate company business development efforts by responding to RFPs, teaming invitations, and attending external meetings with clients
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate work activities amongst peers and subcontractors to execute multi-disciplined projects throughout NJ and NY
  • Execute detailed phases of geotechnical & geophysical investigations, testing programs, instrumentation programs, and other technical work
  • Prepare geological, foundation, and materials evaluation reports for proposed structures and improvements
  • Provide quality control review of technical work and deliverables
  • Assist in preparing project proposals
  • Interface with client PMs, government regulators, other consultants & contractors, and other stakeholders

Specific Duties:

  • Plan and coordinate geotechnical & geophysical investigations and work plans, instrumentation programs, and in-situ & laboratory testing programs
  • Characterize material properties for analyses and design by recommending types and number of geotechnical laboratory tests such as grain size, organic content, Atterberg Limits, and regular and slurry consolidation tests
  • Originate geotechnical analyses and designs for levees, use of sediment foundations, ground improvement programs
  • Prepare design documentation reports and calculation briefs
  • Support the preparation of construction document packages (drawings, specifications, CQA/CQC manuals)

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

Degree in civil engineering from a U.S. college or university with an ABET-accredited civil/geotechnical engineering program is required.  At least seven (7) years of relevant engineering experience is required.  Candidates should have experience in successfully executing projects from inception, into planning & scheduling, through design, and to completion of deliverables, and providing strong technical direction/support for geotechnical aspects of projects.  Specialization in geotechnical engineering is required.  Exposure to heavy civil construction is a plus.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for refining and enhancing written materials, including proposals, reports, and client deliverables, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with industry standards. Responsibilities:

  • Client Collaboration: Collaborate with project managers, subject matter experts, and consultants to understand client requirements and expectations. Work closely with authors to understand complex scientific concepts and ensure accurate representation in written materials. Provide constructive feedback to authors for improving the overall quality of the content. Help incorporate client feedback into documents while maintaining a high level of professionalism and quality.
  • Edit and Refine Client Deliverables: Edit and proofread a variety of client-facing documents for grammar, syntax, style, and clarity. Ensure that documents are well-structured, clear, and tailored to meet client expectations.
  • Ensure Consistency and Style: Ensure consistency in language, terminology, and formatting across all client-facing documents. Develop or adhere to corporate style and brand guidelines as well as industry-specific style guides.
  • Training and Guidance: Provide training and guidance to subject matter experts on effective written communication, ensuring that client-facing materials are of the highest quality.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough reviews of client deliverables to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established guidelines and industry standards, including ADA accessibility standards. Verify data accuracy and perform fact-checking, as necessary.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Communications, English, or a related field
  • Must be able to clear a federal government background investigation
  • At least five years of experience as a technical editor in a professional services or consulting environment, preferably within the environmental sector
  • Experience adhering to ADA accessibility guidelines for government documents
  • Strong command of written English, with an emphasis on business and technical writing
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations, permitting processes, and industry terminology
  • Experience with National Environmental Policy Act documentation is a plus
  • Excellent command of English grammar, syntax, and style
  • Familiarity with relevant style guides (APA, Chicago, etc.)
  • Mastery of document design elements in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat, including, but not limited to: formatting and updating tables of contents, using the Styles panel for universal heading and character styles, arranging page breaks for different header and footers throughout a document, combining files in Adobe Acrobat with appropriate links and accessibility, etc.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills to meet project deadlines
  • Detail-oriented with a keen eye for accuracy and consistency
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams

Accounts Receivable Specialist

First Environment, Inc.—an environmental consulting services company that provides strategic environmental and engineering services throughout the U.S.—is seeking an Accounts Receivable Specialist in our Butler, NJ office. The individual in this role will be responsible for contributing to the financial health of our organization by ensuring timely and accurate processing of customer payments. Key Responsibilities:

  • Generate and distribute accurate and timely customer invoices on a monthly basis
  • Apply for client payments via ACH, check, and credit card
  • Record and reconcile customer payments in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Maintain and update customer information in accounting platform, Deltek Ajera
  • Monitor overdue accounts and follow-up with customers to secure timely payments
  • Respond to customer inquiries and provide excellent customer service regarding billing issues, discrepancies, and payment arrangements
  • Regularly reconcile accounts receivable ledger to ensure accuracy and resolve any discrepancies
  • Coordinate with human resources staff on timesheet and payroll questions and needs
  • Perform related duties as assigned
  • Work at least three days per week in First Environment’s Butler, NJ headquarters office

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
  • Minimum of three to five years of accounting experience, preferably in professional services organizations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to anticipate work needs and interact professionally with clients
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of current accounting standards and best practices
