Heavy Equipment Manufacturer: Acquisition

A German corporation hired First Environment to assist in the acquisition of a turbine manufacturing company with ten facilities in the United States. Because of facility locations, the impacts of New Jersey's ISRA, Connecticut's Transfer Act, and Massachusetts's Contingency Plan had to be considered. Given the complexity of the issues and the numerous possible outcomes with regard to all the sites, decision tree analysis was used to develop

potential contamination and associated cost scenarios for each facility. The probability of occurrence at each decision point was developed based on the type of issue and our experience with the state regulatory program.

The New Jersey facility had already undergone investigation for soil and groundwater contamination, however, we identified additional areas of environmental concern, which required remediation. Compounding this issue, the client required significant expansion of the New Jersey facility. We then worked with the client's engineering team to develop an expansion approach.
