TASK: Revitalization of ISO 14001 EMS
LOCATION:
New York, NY

OBJECTIVES:

  • Comprehensive Gap Analysis
  • Redesign of EMS
    12 new components
    17 new procedures
  • EMS awareness training
  • Steering Committee drawn from across organization.
  • Ambitious objectives and targets.

With a re-certification ISO 14001 audit looming, Con Edison needed an overhaul of its existing procedures. Our firm provided an on-site Management Representative, assisted in the redesign of the EMS structure (including the development of 17 new procedures), and participated in the ISO 14001 re-certification audit. In performing this work, First Environment utilized the knowledge gained from an EMS assessment performed prior to this group’s initial certification in 1998.

We redesigned the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and supported the re-certification for Con Edison’s Central Field Services division, with multiple facilities in New York City. The restructuring of this group created the opportunity to substantially improve the EMS.

The assessment and implementation efforts resulted in a redesigned ten-element EMS with 17 new procedures that met the requirements of ISO 14001 and could support the expectations of CFS and Con Edison with regard to EH&S performance.
